Immigration Literature Circles



Immigration Unit Literature Circle Guidelines
The quotes that you choose to analyze and write about must pertain to one of the following questions:
1. Why have the characters in your book come to America?
2. What was the journey like coming to America?
3. What was the life/role of the characters in their home country?
4. What challenges do the characters face upon their arrival?
5. What hardships do the characters endure as they make a new life?
6. How do the characters maintain their cultural ties to their homeland while living in America? 7. How do Americans treat the characters? (Specifically those born/raised in US)Posting
Format: Complete steps 1-4 for TWO DIFFERENT QUOTES
1. Quote, who said it, page number
2. Significance. 3-5 complete sentences explaining how it relates to one of the above questions. Must be specific! (No she, he, they, it, them, etc.)
3. Personal Connection. 2-3 complete sentences reflecting on your connections to the quote, story, etc. OR Character Judgement. 2-3 complete sentences describing the character, their actions and your feelings toward them. (Should be connected to your quote. Can’t use the same character twice)
4. Question: Pose one question per quote relating in some way to your quote for your group to answer.
Response Format: Visit one LC member for each response
Read their first quote and respond to their analysis and answer their question.
How this should look:
Quote #1: Response/Comment: 2-3 complete sentences minimum
Question #1: Answer: 2 complete sentences minimum
Quote #2: Response/Comment: 2-3 complete sentences minimum
Question #2: Answer: 2 complete sentences minimum
Make sure your name is on the response so you receive credit.
Those that do not post on time will not receive credit. Late work is not accepted because your group can’t respond unless you do your part!
